Navigating the Complexity of ESG Regulatory Developments

At Legal ESG in New York this November I was honoured to chair a panel discussion on recent developments in ESG disclosure requirements and the fraught political landscape of ESG in the United States. At ‘Addressing the Regulatory Complexities of ESG’, Tim Wilkins (Global Partner for Client Sustainability at Freshfield Bruckhaus Deringer), Kyle Goehring (Head of Sustainability at Turner & Townsend) and Amma Anaman (Senior Associate General Counsel & Legal Relationship Manager at Nasdaq) shared thoughtful perspectives on the impact of new laws and regulations on business strategy.

The panelists discussed how the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, the SEC’s proposed Climate Disclosure Rules and numerous US State laws pose significant challenges for businesses in the face of sometimes conflicting requirements. Also, at a time of increased expectations and accountability, how might Boards adapt their oversight processes and strategies.

For complex panels like these that incorporate a range of perspectives, it’s crucial to shape the discussion with copious preparation. I was delighted to receive the following feedback from my panelists:

“Thank you Christina.  Your thoughtful preparation and in-depth commentary really made the panel shine.” Kyle Goehring

“The preparation and intelligence provided in advance helped shape the dialogue for all parties’ benefit.” Tim Wilkins

“Thank you for all your support as we prepared over the past few weeks.” Amma Anaman
